Committee Meeting
Join a DARE Support Committee
Most main centres throughout New Zealand have a DARE Support Committee. Many helping agencies and voluntary organisations are represented on these committees. Majority of the local DARE Support Committees are members of their regional Incorporated Society.
Purpose of a Support Committee
The prime responsibilities of a DARE Support Committee are to:
-
Generate funds to ensure the delivery of DARE programmes in the local community.
-
Promote the various programmes and DARE activities occurring in the local community.
-
Encourage wide community support and involvement in DARE.
-
Support licensed facilitators who deliver the DARE to be You, DARE to Move On and DARE to Support Your Kids programmes in the local community.
Partnerships
DARE to Make a Choice, Tena Kowhiria and DARE to Drive to Survive programmes are delivered by Police Education Officers (PEO), trained to facilitate these programmes. These PEO's work in partnership with the Classroom Teacher. There are appoximately 125 police education officers who are available to all schools throughout New Zealand. These programmes require funding from the local community.
DARE Community programmes, DARE to be You, DARE to Move On and DARE to Support Your Kids are programmes that are delivered by community volunteers and people employed in the youth sector and schools e.g. Guidance Counsellors, Youth Workers. DARE Support Committees coordinate, monitor and support the delivery of these three programmes.
